Top Gear |
| In the 8th series of "Top Gear," Richard Hammond tried to convert a Volkswagen T3 to be amphibious. The 'DamperVan' sunk in the middle of a Peak District reservoir due to structural problems and the breaking of the propellor as the van entered the water. The T3 was 2 tonnes heavier after Hammond modified it and its engine was over worked and it overheated regularly as air was cut off with buoyancy aids. Hammond thought that it would be used as a river boat rather than crossing a water body. Subsequently, he was beaten by James May's Triumph Herald yacht and Jeremy Clarkson's 'Toybota Hilux'
