Hey there! I am the owner of Maureen, a recently refurbished 1972 Transporter, and I’m currently preparing a documentary proposal but am struggling to find real in-depth information on Type 2 (T1/2)’s, for example how many are registered in the UK and a detailed timeline of construction, if possible right up to the manufacture of Danbury’s. There seem to be a lot of fan-forum websites but not so many placing them in a historical context (although the Type 2 Westfalia Owner’s Club website has a good piece). I have a number of books as well as Campervan Crazy on DVD but these tend to focus mainly on smaller stories such as journeys and travels rather than more detailed events and specifics regarding the chronology of the vans and a larger scale of history. One main focus is going to be how the low fuel efficiency of the vans goes against the ‘hippie’ image they have adopted over the years. I’m seeing if any fellow friendly folk here can steer me (no pun intended!) towards useful articles and books and even specific back-issues of magazines. Your help would be greeted with open arms and should the film go into production you would of course be owed a humble credit! Take it easy! Sarah. (e-mail: spiritualmachines4@yahoo.co.uk)
