Hi all,

I'm Mart, 38 years old from leigh-on-Sea in Essex and have just started looking for my first camper and may require a little bit of help to get me in the right direction.....please!?!

I'm looking for a bay....possibly pre 1973....solid shell....re-con or new engine if poss.....I dont mind having to re-spray, do any internal work, new wheels etc......something I can make my mark on that is sound and suitable for every day use.

I will have about £4,500 to spend on a camper (once I have sold my current vehicle).....do you think I have a chance of a decent purchase?

a few quick questions, if anyone could kindly help.....

1. Will I need to keep it under cover during the winter?
2. Is a 1973 bay suitable for everyday use?
3. Is the insurance expensive / what group does it come under?
4. A bit concerned about fuel consumption.....any idea on the rough consumption?

Would really appreciate anyones help.....

Cheers,

Mart....

1. It would help but if you dont have a garage you can get inexpensive foldaway covers

2.Yes it is. Just make sure that it was registered before August and that it is classed as an historic vehicle

3.My insurance is £100 quid fully comp with 100 quid excess

4. Full consumption is appalling. 18mpg - 25mpg on a motorway and if you keep under 50 mph. Remeber you are not in a rush and dont use it as the motor that you drive to work or pop down the shop in.
