my 1971 vw transporter has some wiring issues.  the first one is when i turn the headlights on it pops the fuse.  it has a short somewhere....so does anyone have any suggestions of where to start first?

along the same lines, right tail light doesnt work but brake light does.  left side, opposite, no brake light but has a tail light.

any suggestions will help

Well its a matter of deduction really. You will need to connect the lights directly to the battery and see if it blows. If it does its the light fitting. And so on.

Ill have a look see if I can find some useful stuff. But in the meantime there is a lot of wiring diagrams in the technical section which may be of use

was having some issues with my log in....so i changed it. anyway, continuing on w/the saga......

the root of the problem for this wiring nightmare is the windshield! well, actually the windshield seal; it's leaking right onto the fusebox and blowing the fuses. this problem and a socket on the driverside marker light grounding out seems to be all for now. i am waiting to get the windshield replaced (and the seal). as soon as i get this taken care of i will continue on making sure there are no other issues with the electrical.
