Hi, I'm hoping to buy a camper over the next couple of months and seem to be having difficulty picking out an online insurance quote - was hoping some of you might know of somewhere that could help me out.  The ones I've looked at so far don't seem to consider it a car, but at the same time they assume if I select the options for a van I'm trying to insure a commercial vehicle for business use.  Would anyone be able to give me details for a site that could help?  Or, I'd actually be interested to know what sort of amount I'll end up paying - would anyone mind making public the amount that they pay to insure a van for 1 driver, occasional weekend use - I've never actually owned a car before, never mind a camper, so don't have any existing insurance I can extend.  I'm hoping for a 70s bay, if I can find the right vehicle within my price range, but would not at this stage rule out a T25, so I'm also wondering if that has a noticeable difference.

Is there anything else you wish someone had told you before you bought?

Right my advice would be either to look on the homepage of this site as there are a couple of sponsors that do insurance there. They should know the difference.

Secondly, you could look in the business directory on this iste as i believe there is a couple of insurers there as well.

Another peice of advice is do not call it a VW camper as technically its a VW transporter. This confuses insurance firms as VW never made a real camper themselves. As for cost I would suggest that I am 40 years old and have 6 years no claims and I pay around £220 fully comp

Hows that

Pick up a copy of Volksworld or any VW magazine and every second page has a specialist VW insurer on it! Oh and welcome JennyAnyDots!

No-one ever reads this bit anyway!

Thanks for this.

Now I just need to find the right van and I'm all set.  I'll look forward to coming round more often and getting to know you all.
