Have just rebuilt the engine (1974 1.8L kombi) and last weekend fixed the leak from the oil cooler. Now there is a new leak on the other side of the engine. There is no leak if the car is just idling but plenty of mess once the engine gets hot. The rubber boot at the base of the dipstick seems ok but there is oil on the back of the alternator (ie above the dipstick boot) and on the tin below the fan inside the compartment.

And all over the heater box on that side, the muffler, the engine mounting bar etc. Has anybody got any ideas -- I've only got another week before my registration expires (failed because of the oil leak) so need to get this fixed.
