There are two main ways in which one can properly identify your Volkswagen Type 2 Camper or Bus, these are by the Chassis plate and the M-Code plate. More to the point M-codes are differences in the model compared to the standard production model as rolled of the assembly line. So if you have both you should be able to correctly identify your vehicle, as well as work out all the detail changes from the original vehicle.  Whilst the Chassis plate does contain some interesting and useful information it is the M-code Plate that will tell you the most about your vehicle.  For instance the M-code Plate contains  the chassis number, original exterior and interior colors, upholstery, optional extra's, production date, export country and model number.

Apparently before 1976 an adhesive sticker was placed just under the M-code Plate to donate the colour and paint code (We have got to check on this).
